On Sunday, 29 January 1939, at 1:30 pm, five Savoia Marchetti SM-79 bombers of the Italian Fascist Air Force, led by Captain Costa Egidio, bombed the town of Cassà. In total, around 50 100-kilo bombs were dropped, killing 8 people and damaging at least 54 houses.
