PROTECTED NATURAL AREA
Cassà, an exceptional entrance to Gavarres massif
Cassà de la Selva is an exceptional gateway to the Gavarres natural area. It is a massif of smooth, rounded hills with a landscape dominated by cork oaks that divides the flatlands of La Selva and Baix Empordà. The mountains are criss-crossed by a large number of torrents and streams, and are home to numerous species of animals and plants typical of Mediterranean forest areas. Throughout the massif there are testimonies to various historical periods, from megalithic monuments to Iberian villages, medieval churches to modern farmhouses.
The Protected Natural Area is currently managed by the Consorci de les Gavarres. For more information you can consult their website www.gavarres.cat
The best way to discover all this heritage is to take one of the routes that are proposed from the municipality and that you can discover here.
