Buildings in the Art Nouveau style

The history of Cassà de la Selva is closely linked to the cork industry that began in the municipality in the 18th century. The development and wealth this industry brought to the town led many of the owners to build houses, factories and other buildings whose aesthetic elements were of great importance. Most of these buildings combine different styles that draw from the trends at the time, especially the Catalan Modernisme or Art Nouveau of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Some of the most emblematic buildings are Can Nadal, the current home of the Cassà Town Hall; the Gas Factory, which manufactured and supplied acetylene gas for municipal public lighting; the houses along Carrer Ample; Can Trinxeria, a municipal facility with sculptures by Enric Clarasó, the Recreational Centre, a large space for leisure and gatherings to this day; Can Serra, or the Sala Galà.

The best way to discover all this heritage with clear influences of Art Nouveau and other elements of interest in the town is to follow the Cork route in the town of Cassà de la Selva, which traces the influence that the cork industry has had on the town's architectural heritage.
